Professor David Fruman Appointed as New Chair of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry
We are pleased to announce that Professor David Fruman is the new Chair of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at UC Irvine. He officially became Chair on July 1, 2024, after serving as Elect-Chair since April 1, 2024.
Professor Fruman has been a valued member of the UC Irvine faculty since 2000. His significant achievements include being elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in 2016. His research focuses on signal transduction in lymphocytes, particularly on targeted therapies for blood cancer. He currently holds the position of Associate Director for Basic Science at the UCI Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.
In addition to his research, Professor Fruman is deeply committed to graduate education. He directed the Cellular & Molecular Biosciences PhD program from 2011 to 2015 and led the GPS-BIOMED program from 2014 to 2019, enhancing professional development for UCI graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the biomedical sciences. He continues to serve as Academic Director of this program, now named GPS-STEM. From 2020 to 2023, he also directed or co-directed the Masters in Biotechnology Management (MSBTM) Program.
